How Fast Do Mini Dachshunds Grow?

I am getting a mini dachshund but not until he's between 10-15 weeks. Will he still be small…how fast do they grow? I'm just scared I'll miss a vital time in his puppyhood.

He will be quite small at that age, dachshunds grow rather slowly, they do reach their full size at about 7 months, but continue to get more muscular and bulky until at least one year.

You won't miss anything in his puppyhood and it is a very good idea to leave him with his mother and litter mates until at least 12 weeks, small dogs should not be taken sooner, they get their immunity from their mothers and need the extra time.

Get a great book on dachshunds that we require all our first time dachshund adoptive people to read, "Dachshunds for Dummies", silly name but great book, very informative about dachie care and characteristics of the breed -they are quite exceptional and unique in many ways.

I have 5 of my own and foster for our rescue – hope you have a great time with your dachsie, but be sure not to be harsh with him, never yell or hit, but be a gentle leader for your little guy and you will have the best pet possible.

Nicole, there are NO "teacup" dachshunds – they come in 2 sizes, standard which is over 16 pounds and minis which are under 10 lbs. Many fall into what is called "tweenies" – not legit, but very cute anyway. If someone is selling "teacup" anything, you can be it is a byb or puppy mill and you are getting conned into buying a runt and supporting some horrible breeding practices.
