Mini Dachshunds

Can Anybody Tell Me Where I Can Find a Breeder That Breeds Mini Dachshunds Here in Texas?

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

I am looking for a mini dachshunds!!! I want one sooo bad!!!

Before you buy a mini dachshund, read "Dachshunds for Dummies". It will give you ideas about the character of the breed. I adopted two of them from a shelter three years ago, and they are great, but very different from each other.

Is It Hard for Mini Dachshunds to Breed?

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

no they usually do just find breeding.
the younger females have a little harder time on their first heat. but really if you are going to breed they need to be at least two and have had two heat cycles any ways for her health.

however with Doxies you want to make sure there is no inbreeding what so ever. If you have the female find a male out side your local area and take a look at the pedigree to know there is no relationship. inbreeding in doxies can cause shorter snouts and leg more health problems.

I bred Doxies both minnie and standard for a while. I only had one not take in all the time I was breeding. I also know three other Dachshund breeders that breed only Minnies and they have never had one not take. maybe it is just are area but we seem to have done just fine with breeding them (we no longer breed them)

Are Mini Dachshunds Baby Friendly? ?

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

I'm 7 weeks preggo with my first baby and I want my child to have a pet. I am in love with the smooth haired mini dachshunds (weiner dogs). I think they're absolutely adorable. My question is if this breed would do good with a baby or small child and also if they're suited for apartment life. TIA!

No. Because of their very long backs, a toddler falling on them could mean extensive back surgery or even the pet's death. In general, small dogs do not mix with young children for a variety of reasons. Dachshunds are also working dogs, high energy, and really would benefit from a fenced yard for exercise as well.

What Is a Good Dry Dog Food for Mini Dachshunds?

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

We have been preparing our own dog food (chicken, beef, veggies, rice) for the past 2 years. Recently we were told that they probably are not getting the vitamins & nutrients that they need. Because of that (and the fact that it's become a real bore fixing their food) we're switching them to dry food. Two dogs- a smoothie and a long hair. The long hair is SO picky about everything he eats, and we're struggling – big time. What is a good, nutritional dry dog food? We figure if we introduce it to him and stick with it, he'll HAVE to eat sooner or later…

I am an absolute fan of Fromm Four Star Nutritionals. My dog eats the Salmon a la veg flavor but there are many to choose from. The food provides a well balanced diet, the kibbles are small, and the brand has never been recalled!! I wouldn't feed my little boy anything else!

You can check them out on their website

Do Mini Dachshunds Get Attached to Their Owners Easily?

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

I really want to get a small dog like a dachshund, but I want one that will get attached to me easily. Are mini dachshunds like this or are they fairly independent? Also, I will be going off to college in two years and will have to leave whichever dog I get with my parents for a year (but I will go to visit every weekend and spend lots of time with my dog). If I do that, would a mini dachshund not feel attached to me anymore? Does anyone have any suggestions of other good dog breeds that are small and require little maintenance?
Why isn't anyone answering my question? I'm not looking for people to tell me whether or not to get a dog; I am going to get one. Also, the leaving for a year is a huge maybe. I have one dog already and I know the commitment required to raise a happy, healthy dog.

Dachshunds get attached to their owners VERY easily. Sometimes too much and it can cause them to have separation anxiety.

So you could get a dachshund and then after a year you could leave to go to college. It is very likely that your dog will transfer her primary affection & attachment from you to your mother or father or whomever in the household pays him/her the most attention during your time away. Don't worry though the dog will always love you. However – you may notice that on a weekend that you come home — she will love you and greet you but then go sit on your mom's lap.

So — to if you do get a Dachshund – be sure to take it to training classes — it will help socialize him/her (very important for dachshunds as they can be yappy towards other dogs) and it will help reinforce confidence so that your dog will not be too dependant on you. GOOD LUCK!

I Have 2 Mini Dachshunds I Need Advice Please11?

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

Hello, I have 2 mini dachshunds (1 male & 1 female), both 1yr old.
Neither one is fixed. But my problem is that the male is going to the
bathroom where he pleases. I had a doggy door installed and I take
them on walks throughout the day. Don't get me wrong he does go
outside when he needs to but it seems to get worse when my husband
comes home. (He works on the slope 4/2) and then this morning my
female went potty both 1 & 2 on the couch. I just don't know what to
do. I've tried everything that I can think of. I love them but I'm
tired of cleaning up crap everyday if you know what I mean. Does
anyone have any ideas? Please help I need ideas.

get them fixed soon. NOW! the dogs will start breeding. hes marking his territory. what your saying is, "hello, i have to mini dachsaunds, a male and a female. both 1 yr old. neither one is fixed." thats the problem!!

Is It Okay for My Two Dachshunds to Have to Much Table Scraps?

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

My two mini Dachshunds pretty much every night have table food. I am wondering if it is okay for them to have a lot of table food. Could it harm them in any kind of way?
I only basicly feed them Chicken (not chicken fat or skin), mashed potatos and rice… But mostly during the day their own dog food which is Pedigree Indoor Complete.

Absolutely if the table food is salty and fatty. Besides loose bowels, too much fat can cause a very serious health problem. Too much salt is hard on their kidneys. Vegetables from the table both cooked and raw are good for dogs. Fruit in moderation, like apple slice, orange and banana. Very lean meat with no salt, pepper, onion or garlic. My dogs eat a modified diet of table quality foods because of food allergy. They eat boiled sirloin, raw vegetables and canned pumpkin. Also added are salmon oil, calcium powder, probiotics and kelp. The vet said they are very healthy
PS they are Dachshunds (standard)
