ok my dachshund is 6 months old and hes is the fattest dog i think i've ever seen. We have him on the purina diet, and he's almost ten lbs, and still only 6 months. I also have another male that is 9 months, and 6 lbs.
Hi! ![]()
It depends on his parents. Minis weight can vary. Also some Miniature Dachshunds can be bigger and are called 'Tweenies'. Which are between a Miniature and a Standard Dachshund for weight. "Tweenies" are not recognized as a size by the AKC though. Feed him a high quality puppy chow, based on his needs either way.

There is no set weight. As long as your vet says that your dogs healthy, then your fine.
Weight of the standard size of Dachshunds is usually between 16 and 32 pounds. (According to akc.org)
Your dog is right on track! Your other 6 pound dog, is just a poor example of the breed.
Good Luck!

Bred and shown in two sizes, standard and miniature; miniatures are not a separate classification but compete in a class division for "11 pounds and under at 12 months of age and older." Weight of the standard size is usually between 16 and 32 pounds.

Looks like My Golden Jewel didn’t read the question! 16-32 is regular for STANDARD. The question clearly states that the dog is a MINI!
Your 6 pound dog is NOT a “poor example of the breed” if it is a Mini!
The best way to tell is not to get hung up on weight, but look at the actual dog. Does he look fat? Compared to dogs of healhty weight? Ask your vet if the dog is overweight, this breed does have a tendancy for obesity, so you want to be careful.
If he is overweight, ask your vet what to do.
