Benefits of an Invisible Fence

Imagine this: you have finally closed the deal for the house that you’ve been wanting for so long. It has all that you dreamt of, including a garden that crowns it all. However, when the next day you go see your garden, you notice that many of the flowers have been damaged or unrooted. It makes you freak out, because the day before it was ok. You look at your family pet and see traces of dirt all over his paws. It’s maybe time to invest in an invisible fence.

Advantages and Disadvantages of An Invisible Fence

Getting an invisible fence is a good idea when you own a dog that is very playful. Because of their nature, dogs tend to experiment with things by barking at them, digging them, or munching on them. This is why the most common invisible fence is an invisible dog fence. The fence will limit the dog to an area so that it doesn’t destroy flowers or gardens by accident. It can be a great deterrent for dogs but most times an invisible fence includes some sort of punishment for the animal if he crosses it.

This “punishment” consists of a small static shock that is meant to surprise the dog. You might remember some behavior experiments where dogs are rewarded and punished in order to modify their behavior. In this case, the punishment is the above mentioned static shock.

The shock is given to the dog through a collar that it has to wear. The intensity of the shock should be adjusted by the owner so that it’s not so strong that it hurts the dog or is painful for it, but not so mild that the dog can just ignore it (dogs have a much ticker skin than humans and much bigger resistance to pain). After a bit of experimentation (not on the dog, of course), you’ll find the right level that will work nicely.

An invisible fence is a good idea to keep your dog within a fixed area without altering your property. Your dog will not be able to destroy gardens or other things in your garden. In addition, an invisible fence will protect your dog from running towards guests or running cars.
