Small Breed Dog That Licks Sheets? We Rescued a Longhaired Dachshund 10yrs +Old, She Licks the Sheets a Lot.?

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

she was obviolsly treatedly badly. and after a month we noticed she licks our sheets, flannel or not anyone ever hear of this or why she might do it? I dont leave the house w/o her …she follows me all the time even follows me to the bathroom

When dogs are taken away from their mothers too young, they often lick things like sheets and suck on blankets – oral fixations are leftover from wanting to nurse, and being separated too soon.

The fact that she follows you constantly isn't unusual for any dog, however – they are pack animals and travel together, looking up to the leader for their next move. I would guess there are lots of people in the Dog section who have not visited the bathroom alone for quite some time.

Thank you for taking this old girl in – many people won't take seniors, and it's such a huge gift to know one more will last out her days in a decent place.

I Rescued a Dachshund From the Shelter 2 Weeks Ago…?

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

She is doing wonderfully! The vet I took her to said she was, at his best guess 6 mos old since she already had most of her adult teeth, but 2 baby teeth left. I was wondering if there was a way to tell if she is a mini or regular dachshund. Or is it just a wait and see kind of a thing. Right now she weighs 6.8 lbs. The vet said he didn't think she was going to be too much bigger. So let me know what ya think, this is my first dachshund, and when I saw her at the shelter I just fell in love with her and don't know too much about them. But I have been reading up on them. Thanks for the help! (and Ella thanks you too)

its one of those things u will just have to wait and see,, only other option is if u want to spend the money they do have gene testing for dogs now and u can find out exactly what breed she is but its very expensive,, other than that sure there's not much the shelter can tell u they are probably not even sure if she is a pedigree any way best of luck to u and ella

Doppel Dachshund!!!…. ?

About a year ago i found my dachshund and rescued her she was still a baby puppy about a couple weeks later one of my moms friends came oer and she freaked out she started growling and barking she does this to all males except for my boyfriend and idk y or what happened to her before o found her or what her problem she is a very loving and sweet do and also very loyal.she is a very big part of our family but idk what to do about this issue please help!
ok guys sry the spell check thing changed it lol i know its dapple not doppel! lol

Ok first off its a dapple dachshund. Just to clear it up :)

She probly was not socialized enough or she was not around males enough to fully trust them. It is a hard thing because it is very hard to break in dogs who have not been socialized properly. What you need to do is just have your friends come over often and hold her and have a muzzle on her and have your friends just scratch under her chin. It is almost like a greeting. Dont use high pitched voices, it can be very scary to them and threatening. Also get down to her level.

I show, own and train longhair standard dachshunds. They are the best breed!
