Where Should I Get a Dachshund Puppy That Behaves Well, Is Cheap, and Is Adorable?

I want a Dachshund puppy, but i need it to behave well and be cheap and be adorable.

The best way to get a cheap dachshund puppy is to get one at a rescue shelter. Daschunds are automatically adoreable and become more so if you, the owner interact kindly and lovingly with it. The best way to get one that is well behaved is to get a pup young enough that YOU become his primary, recognized, authority source, and train it the way you want it, even if you have to get professional trainers to help you.

a “puppy” will not automatically be well-behaved.. it takes time, patience and training to get a well-behaved dog.

Since you’re looking for “cheap”.. then try a shelter or rescue http://www.petfinder.com.. since you want a well-behaved dog, I suggest you try seeking a young adult instead of a puppy.

Well you can get one from a breed rescue for relatively cheap concidering they do all the vetting for you and adopt them out for a fraction of the cost, then you can train it to make it behave, and then you can bathe it and even put little ribbons on it’s ears if being adorable is the key issue.

In order for a dog to be well behaved, you are going to have to train it to be that way. Dogs do not just magically come well behaved, it is a learnt behaviour.

With regards to cheap, look into shelters and rescues.

Wait a sec….maybe instead go buy a stuffed toy

If you find a breeder that will sell you a doxie for cheap, the dog probably has health issues that will cost you a few grand later in it’s life.

You can get the last two in any ill-bred BYB pup, but the first part is up to you.

I have to agree with Nekkid Bootie. It takes patience, training, and a lot of love. You can’t hit or yell at it. Or put it in a crate for long periods of time. It will cause behavioral issues. Cheap dogs are usually from BYB and puppy mills. Which means an increase of possible health problems. So in the end you will spend more. You can try petfinder.com

Dachshund rescue. Many Doxies come in quite young as the owner expects some miracle as your “behaving” issue.

Behaving is something you teach. It is not something a dog is born with.

Doxies are wonderful dogs. Good luck!

well behaved puppy? no ideas. puppies are curious creatures and will be mischievous until trained. if you want one that is well behaved try adopting an older dachshund from a rescue just for dachshunds. about a year old is still in the puppy stage, and will be more appreciative of a chance at a home than a new puppy will be…it will be glad to get out of doggie jail.

All dogs will behave well when trained.

I strongly recommend that you go the rescue route.

No dog is “cheap”; vet bills can run sky-high, food bills and grooming bills all add up. Those “free to good home” dogs are actually more often than not, more expensive than a shelter/rescue dog. When you adopt, you not only save a life but also your wallet; adoption prices include spay/neuter, shots, etc. Everything that you would pay for with a dog elsewhere, but at a smaller price.

Also, consider adopting an adult dog! They are often overlooked and often euthanized, even if they have been housebroken and are easier to take care of. Here are the many benefits of adopting an adult dog:

Dachshunds are not well behaved puppies. They are energetic, and they are difficult unless you have lots of time and patience. You should go the the animal shelter and find a dog that is just right for you. There are lots of dogs in the shelter that would be inexpensive and would be very adorable and would love you and behave well for you if you gave them a chance. A puppy is not the answer if you are looking for well behaved. It won’t be well behaved until it is about 2 years old after you have consistently trained and worked with it, and I mean worked! It is not something that you can do today and then forget about for a few months and then work with again. You have to train your dog every day and work with it and walk it and play with it and stay home with it to train it over a long time to get what you are looking for. Go to the animal shelter and see what you can find. If nothing is right for you this visit, go back next week or next month and look again. The right dog will come along soon.

Yes, in terms of behavior, training is important, but the dachshunds may be predisposed to aggression according to one recent study (July 2008).

In a comprehensive study published in “Applied Animal Behaviour and Science” (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/2254479/Sausage-dogs-are-the-most-aggressive-dogs.html)
the researchers found that dachshunds were the most aggressive breed with 1 in 5 trying to bite strangers and 1 in 12 trying to bite their owner.

Thus, if your goal is a well-behaved dog, you will have to work especially hard with a doxie. Assuming they don’t attract naturally weak owners, aggression is in the breed’s character. When a small dog attacks, it is far less likely to be life-threatening than when a large dog attacks, so people often tolerate more bad behvaior from small dogs.
Consider breed choice carefully and whether you’re ready to make a small dog behave in a seemly manner–no mean task!
