This is the last of our recent litter. Yhe puppy with the black collar is an eight week old male. He is playing with our new dam. She has the purple collar and we should be seeing some exceptionally cute puppies from her in a year or two. Thanks for watching.

I have 4 Minature-Dachshund puppies that are almost 3 weeks old. I know it is way to early right now to let their new owners take them. When is the average age they are taken away from their mothers.
Thanks
Puppies shouldn't leave Mom until they're at least eight weeks of age, and there are actually some good reasons why veterinarians recommend this.
Dogs, just like people, develop social skills as babies. Puppies pick up some critical information during those first two months, from interactions with their littermates and with their mother. They learn appropriate responses and boundaries in play. It makes for easier to train and more socialable dog in most instances.
Another reason is the overall health of the dog. At eight weeks of age, our puppies have, through the course of nursing, acquired whats called "maternally derived antibodies". This is a fancy way of saying they've obtained superior immune systems and immune responses to some common infectious diseases through a substance in Mom's milk called colostrum. It's more likely that they'll respond well to vaccinations after they're sent off to their new homes.
Good for you, investigating before you rehome your new pups. I'm sure you've got some great families lined up – what an exciting time! Have fun these next few weeks, and take lots of pictures!
I want a Dachshund puppy, but i need it to behave well and be cheap and be adorable.
The best way to get a cheap dachshund puppy is to get one at a rescue shelter. Daschunds are automatically adoreable and become more so if you, the owner interact kindly and lovingly with it. The best way to get one that is well behaved is to get a pup young enough that YOU become his primary, recognized, authority source, and train it the way you want it, even if you have to get professional trainers to help you.
My mom brought home two 8 week old dachshund puppies on Saturday. They were fine until this morning, when my mom got up, she said one of them had a bloody stool. It was dark red blood and I am at work today and can’t take her to the vet, and my mom is at work too.
I am going home on my lunch break to check on them and let them go potty but in the meantime, I am so worried that I can’t even get any work done. I know that the puppies are up to date on their shots, but I also know parvo can’t be ruled out until they get more shots for that (right?).
If anyone can help me calm down, or if I SHOULD be this worried…
anything?
Well, I went home on my lunch break and my boyfriend got out of class around the same time. The puppies both seem fine but we made a vet appointment for 5pm and I am taking a personal day from work.
These puppies are just so cute, I would be heartbroken if one of them died. I've never had a puppy.
Okay, first of all- take a deep breath. Freaking out while you are at work is not going to do you or your pups any good whatsoever. Take a minute and just calm down.
Next, how have they been acting? Are they normal happy puppies who are interested in playing/eating/etc? or are they acting lethargic and tired and not eating?
If they are acting and eating normally for puppies of that age, I would say, its probably nothing more than a case of worms, or stress. My puppy had some bloody stool when he was that age. I called my vet and had him tested for everything. When the results came back negative, she asked me if there were any stress factors that could be effecting him during poop time. My neighbors kids were apparently calling him and trying to pet him while he was pooping and this caused him to squeeze too hard which broke some anal blood vessels. After I learned this, I took him to a quiet place in the yard to poop and we haven’t had a problem since. So it may be stress.
If the dogs are not acting normal- (tired/not eating) then you are probably right to worry.
Either way, what you need to do is take them to the vet. I understand that you are working, but what you should do is call the vet on your lunchbreak. Tell them the story, and make an appointment for as soon as possible. They may be able to give you some suggestions to help in the mean time before their appointment. Also, the vet’s office will require fecal samples of your pups. Make sure you get good samples, and that you know which sample belongs to which pup.
Again, if they are acting normal, they are most likely fine, but you will need to call your vet either way. Try to calm down and focus on work. Good luck.
Here’s our new Dachshund puppy! She’s quite playful and VERY cuddly. We love her so much.
