The mother is a red, short hair dachshund and the father is a black and white cocker spaniel.
There is no special name for that type of mix yet. I looked for it through this. http://www.achclub.com/modules.php?name=Breeders
Call them Doxie Spaniels ![]()
Don't let the others get you down, there are some people here who hate cross breed dogs, and get angry when they see questions that are similar to yours.
I'm not going to be rude and call your puppies mutts.

Mutt.

Mut. Just because you mix two breeds does not mean when you put the name togther that it's a breed at all. It sounds SUPER unprofessional when peopl say stuff like this and is one of my PERSONAL PET PEEVES!!!!
like the time I saw a cute dog and I asked what breed it was and they honestly said
"a dorkie"
A DORKIE!
thats taking it too far.

Unless it is like the Aussie Labradoodle which is being bred responsibly with the specific purpose of creating a new standardized breed it is just a mix. As far as I know, the Aussie Labradoodle is the only one that is being done that way. (The American variant is just a mix since the responsibility and intent of standardization are lacking)

Please get the dogs neutered and the pups too. There are many low cost places for people who do not want to pay for neutering because they do not have the money or choose to use their money for nail salons, hair dye jobs and Starbucks coffee. I personally know a couple of thoses, their kids and pets go w/o but they have great nails and hair jobs.

Wow, people do get upset over breeding…
I have two adorable Spaniel/ dachshund mix pups. One is cream/white, the other is apple cider color. They have longer legs which, I think will help them as they grow older. They have the doxie faces and personality and smooth short haired coats. I will not breed them because they are siblings.
If there is a problem within a breed, why not try to fix it? If Dachshunds have back problems and giving them slightly longer legs illiminates that, then I say, a qualified Breeder should try it. IN Russia they are mixing a dingo with wolf and terrier to make drug sniffing dogs.
goodbye from Madeline and Dauch(Dawck)
Wow! There is a lot of condascension and arrogance on this board. I looked up a Cocker/Dachshund cross because I had a dog like that for 17 years. She was a great dog, by the way. My aunt bred Dachshunds, and our dog–the pund-rescued “mutt”–had far fewer mental issues and less aggression than the purebreds.
Out of curiosity, why do y’all yearn to make a dog that has proportions “just so” even if it’s at the cost of inbreeding (all purebreds are inbred, by definition) and sacrificing things like temprament and health for leg size and chest width? I think dachshunds are better crossbred than purebred. The pups will come out healthier and happier, and as long as people can get over themselves and love a mutt as much an any other dog, I say go for the crosses!
I heard cocker spaniels were bred with dachshunds many years ago and long haired dachshunds evolved from that. Does anyone know if this is true?
no offence, but dachshunds were first bred to a spaniel to get the long hair, And im pretty sure it was a cocker. Ive done allot of research on dachshunds. Also if you go back quit a ways youll find out that all these purebred dogs came from mixed breeds. They were recognized by AKC and other registries, because the mix between 2 dogs had the same look and charictoristics. Before you go dirt talking people do alittle homework.
Have you ever thought people do adopt rescued mixed breeds?Just because you own a mixed breed dog does not mean you are not responsible. I just adopted a rescue dog that happens to be dachsund/cocker mix….he’s adorable and loved very much.

I have a one & we call him a cocker-dot! The best dog ever & everytime we go somewhere everyone wants to know what he is.
I can’t believe the time people must have on their hands to comment the amount of times they did about it being a mutt. The person asked a legitimate question. I happen to have rescued a little dachshund, cocker spaniel mix from the Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) and she is a wonderful dog. Have you thought about calling them Dockers? That is what we have been referring to ours as.
i adopted a cocker spaniel/dachsund mix. we call her a cockadach.
How many of the disgusted so-called ‘pure breeders’ can be considered of pure breed themselves?
I have two beautiful cocker spaniel/dachshund mix pups! I rescued them from the ARC. I too call them Dockers!
We call ours a Docker … and he’s the most precious, happy, playful, respectful, fun, cute, well behaved pup in the world. He just looks like a little black dachshund … short, short hair. And he plays soccer !!!
I also recently rescued a dog from a shelter (a “mutt”– which I personally happen to think makes the best kind of pet!) I know that her mother was a spaniel but they weren’t sure what her father was. I have a feeling she’s got some dachshund in her– does anyone have pictures of their Dockers (what a cute name!) they’d be willing to post so I could compare? Thanks!
I, too have a rescued cocker / dachshund mix. Smart, great personality, no behavioral problems. I’ve never owned a pure-bred and probably never will. I understand people are upset about dogs dying in shelters, but the lightly jaded contempt towards mutts simply because they are mutts is uncalled for. P.S., I love the idea of calling my mix a dockers, so very cute.
“Jennifer @ 11:40 am
mutt…get your dogs fixed!”
what a horrible and rude thing to say. wow. bitch. just because they are mixed breeds doesnt mean they’re any less than your precious little dumb fucks.
i would call them dachspaniels.
I have a rescued cocker/dachshund cross named Ludwig. He is a beautiful pup with wavy red hair and green eyes. I also have a pure am cocker spaniel from the regular old dog pound. None of these comments are saying the crossed pups have no value; I’m sure they are pretty pups. But if you saw my pure cocker spaniel sitting in the dog pound you might feel that backyard breeders don’t look down the road. Mixed breed dogs as well as purebreds are certainly available in rescue. When we run out of those, then we can breed more! (We like to call Luddy a wienercock because we’re wise asses.)
14 years ago i found a puppy in Athens Greece, the vet said she is a coker mix with …..Further searches shown she mix is Dachshund.Messalina is 14 now, living in Rhode Island, red coat and the best dog you can wish for.Everybody stops me asking if the dog is a mini Golden-Retriever.She looks like one.Could that be a new breed????
Igot pictures of my 14 year old coker-dachshund.Happy to send you few!!!!
THE BEST DOGS!!! and all of you degenerates looking for the “PURE” check your grandma’s ….. first.
Wow, listen to you, purebreed fans telling US “mutt” lovers that we’re contributing to pets dying in shelters… really? Because last time I checked, most of your “PUREBREED” puppies come from puppy mills! Thousands and thousands of puppies locked away in cages! Parents never allowed to even leave the cage…all because people are soooo obsessed with their precious purebreeds that they’d rather buy from a petstore/puppy mill then rescue a “mutt” from a shelter. UNBELIEVABLE!!
ALSO, I believe the term “mutt” refers to a dog whose lineage is NOT known, much like the human “bastard” … not all mixed breeds are mutts!
Geez… these people get really nasty, dont they??? I just adopted a daschund mix from the animal shelter. She is sitting on my lap now. Dont know what she was bred from, dont care. She’s the sweetest thing ever. Should we just let them die in a shelter, cause they aren’t PURE. Gosh, people are cold.
We call ours a ‘docker’
We have one the lady we got her from called her a
dash-a-cock
oi u ugly little mingers! my dogs cross with a cocker spaniel and dachshund! and shes gorgeous, so before you go telling people to get their dogs fixed, get your faces fixed you absolute arses
and go and have a shower and a shave u big fat sweaty prostitues
hahaaaaaaaaa.
I have a half cockerspaniel half dachshund puppy and she is by far the best dog I have ever owned! So loveable and so smart. I call mine a CockaDach
naaaaw

now i really want a dachound cross cocker spaniel
there is one at the petshop for $495 and i reaaaaly want it
im really against petmills and buying dogs from petshops, but this pup is absolutely gorgeous!
i reckon they should be called a docker!!!
<3
I always called them daucher spaniels (pronounced “Docker”) we used to have one and he was one of the best dogs we have ever had.
I had been looking into getting another one actually.
as for everyone who calls it a mutt or mongrel. its simply not that. try owning one first, they grow on you.
OH one more thing.
to everyone calling it a mutt and telling us to get them neutered.
are you 1 pure race??
or are you a mix of many different races like everyone else?
think about that.
We call ours a Docker…
I have an adorable cocker/ dachshund named Frankie… everywhere we go people want to stop and play with him cause he’s the most adorable dog ever. He looks tha same no as when he was 3 months old! He’s got longer legs than a dachshund, curlier ears like a cocker, and the biggest eyes ever! He was bred to be what he is on purpose. And we purchased him like that as there were no shelters within a 20 mile radious of our home with small dogs. Eliminating heath issues is the best reason to breed a dog in my book! You guys sound really cruel.
And to Ben… I think you’re right. I’m sensing some underlying ethno-centric values.
my 14 year old mix pass last month. Looking for same breed
Your just ignorant.
I have a dashund and cocker spaniel mixed and he is a doll. he is my designer dog and I call him a cocker-dash. they are not mutts!
They are called cocka-weenies!!!
My daughter is just about to get such a cross puppy and where she lives in America they are called Dockers. I’ve always owned cocker spaniels and my daughter loves Dachunds so to find this cross to her was a dream come true, both her most favourite breeds in one. I can’t wait to visit and meet the puppy.
is your dog pretty
i want a puppy so bad
i have a cocker spaniel and dachund mix and ive almost had him for 5 years! he is one of the best and smartest dogs i have ever had!!! and since people call dachunds weenie dogs whenever people ask me what he is i say he is a cockaweenie!!! i think its funny and he is a very beautiful dog!!!
Mutts are the best dogs =]
We have one too and we call him a Docker. True, he is a mutt, just like me, everyone in my family, and just about everyone I know. All you condescending blue-bloods who have something against hybrid names sound like a bunch of puckered butt, elitist ‘tards. Look at all the genetic defects the over-bred “pure breeds” have. THAT’S disgusting and irresponsible. Genetic diversity is the key to health and survival. I love my mutts and whether I choose to call them a hybrid name is none of your business.
We have two cockaweenies as well. Our first we got as a pup, she is now 10. We love the mix so much we wanted to find another, very hard to find. Especially short haired and black. A year ago we saw a 2 year old rescue on line in Lafayetee LA, posted by the ARF-LA and she looked just like our first. We were approved and we had her flown over 4,000km home to us. You can not find a better mix. They do not have all the health issues that these pure breeds have from their over breeding money hungry breeders. My two cockaweenies are just like me and 95% of the rest of the world, mixed. They are the perfect mix, they got the best of both dogs. I will only ever have a mix and from now on it will only be a rescue. We love our two cockaweenies no matter what you call them. They make our world complete.
My dog Curly, a cocker spaniel – Dachshund mix, was the BEST DAMN DOG I have ever had! Perfect, perfect mix and I so want another one! My current dog, Riley, is also a cocker-Dachshund mix, however, he looks more like a beagle than anything!
I have a cocker spaniel dachshund mix too.. He looks like a cocker spaniel just shorter and a little longer. Everyone mistakes him for a puppy and get very surprised when he barks because it’s a big bark in a little body…we call him a cockaweenie.
I have a long haired dashchund x cavalier king charles spaniel, loving, intelligent, funny, loyal and brave.
I adopted her from the RSPCA along with the cat and they are great mates. People who insist on only owning or breeding interbred / deliberately deformed pedigree animals are cruel control freaks. They view these creatures as investments and status symbols, a living /breathing expensive accessory.
Dogs are dogs and mine is adorable.
We rescued a “Docker” from the humane society in Phoenix Arizona in 2000. Dachsund/Cocker Spaniel. He was approximately one year of age. He is the most precious dog, adorable… with a sweet & loving personality, a bit shy, & loves to play. He is black, has sleek silky long hair, legs about twice the length of a purebred dachsund…. but otherwise has the shape of a dachsund with a bit of cocker spaniel in the face and ears… just enough so that I’m not aware, but those who know cocker spaniels, immediately see subtle cocker facial & ear features.
He prances like a show horse across the floor with his head up, and his gorgeous tail up and flowing when he gets excited. We love him, he’s 10 now… still healthy & well behaved. Cataracts just barely beginning. We so want to find a breeder for when our Docker is gone… but in 7 years of internet searches, even though a Docker or Doxie Spaniel won a dog show about 5 years ago… we’ve yet to find a breeder. Beautiful, loving & faithful dog.
I have a Doxie Spaniel and I love him. I found him at a SPCA along with another litter of Doxie Spaniel’s. Two litters left in the back of a foreclosed house. He is such a smart dog. We don’t want any other breed now that we have our Redford.
I have a Cocker Spaniel/Dachshund. His name is Sebastian and he is the most incredible dog that I have ever known. He is extremely friendly, smart, lovable, loyal and protective but in no way agressive. He literally “talks” to you in his own little language when we come home each night. He is black with a smooth coat and is a very stocky build with a long body. He is the most fantastic dog and a beautiful companion who never leaves your side. We call the “breed” Spandach !!We saw him in a pet shop and fell in love with him. He was $900 so we really did want him badly. I would pay $900 million for him he is so wonderful and brings joy to our life. We also have a purebred mini black & tan Dachshund who loves him too.
Doesn’t matter what the dog is … its temperment and health that’s important…These are living creatures…not diposable like jeans that aren’t brand names..Tired of all the abuse from puppy mills and many so called good and show breeders…Take good care of your puppies and just find them good forever loving homes…God Bless
i had a doxie spaniel and it was the best dog i have ever had love to get another, hard to find them, let me know if any are around thank you, patrick
Hush-Cocker
Hush as in Hush Puppies. Anyway, that’s what I’ve heard them called.
They’re called Dockers and I’ve been looking for someone who has puppies in or near the Texas area.
We had a wonderful Dachschund/Cocker mix who died tragically recently. We are absolutely devastated as he was simply the most amazing dog either I or my wife has ever owned. If anyone out there knows of any such puppies/dogs that are available anywhere in Ohio, then please contact me.
I have what I think is a Cocker-Spaniel/ Doxin mix…not 100% sure. He looks mostly long haired Doxin but the Cocker features make him less Wiener-Dog like.
I adore this dog. I actually like mutts better…they typically are healthier and live longer…besides…I’m a mutt too…most people in Western Civilization are.
I call him mutt all the time but it’s just a term of endearment. Everyone always asks what kind of dog he is and they always think he’s adorable…. I don’t care what he is…whatever mix made him made him perfect.
To the OP…call your dog whatever you want…it’s your dog…but as far as I am aware there is not specific term for that mix.
I also have a dachshund cocker spaniel and he is the best dog in the world. I think he suites my family well seeing as my husband and daughter are both dwarfs so he’s a perfect dog for them. Oh and i was once told by a breeder that hes called a wee cock and thats what we’ve always called him. no he was not from a breeder we got him from a friend whos dogs accidentally mated. mom was the cocker spaniel and dad was the dachshund.
I have a cocker mix, she is adorable and has great temperment. So what she is not purebreed. She is safe and happy. I take better care of my dog then some people take care of their children. If u r worried about a dogs breed then u should not reproduce because nothing is 100% anything. That’s why I am proud to say that I am american and so is Jinger.
I have one of these mixed cocker/dachs and we call her a Docker dog – she is by far the best dog we have ever owned. Lisa is lovable, a fabulous watch dog who thinks she is 180 pounds instead of 18 pounds.
I have owned purebred Cocker Spaniels all my life and thought i was going to see a purebred when I replied to an ad for black and tan cocker pups. I loved Cockers big time, but this little one is something special. She will ‘talk’ to you; have never heard such a vocal range in a dog. Even the mailman likes her. Tough to beat that recommendation.
She is now 10 years old, still very active and playful and has adopted my 83 and 89 year old parents; my mother has severe dementia and is going blind as well. If you could see the inter-action between the dog and her elderly daytime companions you would know why I say this is the smartest and most loving ‘little black dog’ as the neighborhood calls her.
I will actively hunt for this cross again; best dog I have ever owned.
Yeah, actually there is a cute name for it. It’s called a Cockaweenie. Have fun with that! I own one and for all you jerks calling them mutts, your pathetic and immature.
