My dachshund is having puppies. She had her first one an hour ago, how long until the next one. The vet checked her thought she would have about 4. She’s not straining, looks as if she is resting comfortably. Now how long do we wait for another? This is her first litter.
Thank you for all that answered me she just had her second it took 2 hours an 10 min exactally!! Do I need to figure this with all of them? Or will they get closer together? Oh the vet guessed. We live in a very small town they don't have X-ray there.
She started at 10:10pm and had the last pup at 1:50am. We now have 6 beautiful dachshund puppies without any problems!!!
Thank you to everyone!! Greatly Appreciated!!!!
Well after I updated you all, she had a 7th puppy at 2:15am. So we have 7 wonderful pups and all of them are doing great and so is she!!!
Thanks to all who took the time to help me out!!! u can see pics of them on myspace search robynnest27!!!
If this is her first litter, then you will probably have a bit of a wait in between the pups, just like first time human mothers have longer deliveries! time between pups in first, second, third litters can range from 15-30 minutes to over an hour! Remember, though, that every dog is different! As long she is comfortable, she is fine. If she starts panting, moving around A LOT, and is obviously straining with no results, call an emergency vet. It is not uncommon for dachshunds to get stuck in the birth canal because of thier relatively large heads, and because of thier length, sometimes the babies get tangled up together! Just use common sense if something seems wrong, but usually Mother Nature will make sure everything turns out ok! Good luck…..

well its usually one to two hours but it always varries, the second one should be out soon

keep an eye on her.She could be resting.
Be concerned,if you would see her straining/pushing and no pup coming out.
Dachshunds can have something called uterine inertia.
this basically means, the contractions stop and the labour stops.Wait another hour and if nothing happens(no second, third puppy ),call your vet!

did your vet do an x-ray of her tummy area,to see how many pups are inside.was the vet just taking a guess, how many pups are inside.
Sometimes there is a space between puppies when the new mom stops to nurse the new baby. That helps labor. Suddenly she might have 2 closely together. If she is pushing but not getting the pup out, then you will need the vet. Give her some water. Let her walk around if she wants.

most dogs give birth to all their puppies within 2 hours. any longer and you should see a vet

Just came in on this one – boy were you lucky to get them all out in that time-span!! And six is such a nice number – mum can usually cope fine without much help, and when they start to be weaned, you won’t have too much work (well not like coping with 10 anyhow)
Have fun!
