    Before you start to think in terms of bringing home mini dachshund puppies you should learn a bit about this wonderful dog breed. They are not as yet AKC recognized though they are still a very lovable and well liked breed. Their color can vary and includes shades of sable, brindle, bi-color of black and chocolate as well blue and fawn. The mini dachshund puppies have three distinct types of coats that vary from smooth to wirehaired to long haired.

     

    Type Of Coat

     

    Mini dachshund puppies with smooth coats have a very sleek look while the wirehaired coat is more of a double coat and includes an outer coat that is very hard and short while the undercoat will be fine and soft. As for long-haired mini dachshund puppies they are very elegant to look at and will have coats that glisten though their coats are also a bit wavy with longer hair at the neck and chest as too underbelly and also behind their legs.

     

    In its original avatar, mini dachshund puppies were bred around the sixteenth century for the purpose of hunting hare. They were also originally from Germany though the breed is in fact a Terrier and they rose to prominence when in England, Queen Victoria adopted them.     Be aware that mini dachshund puppies can be quite aggressive when in the presence of other pets against whom they will show signs of jealousy and they do not tolerate strangers too well and so make for good watch dogs that will alert you whenever some unknown person comes to your home.

     

    It pays to take good care of your mini dachshund puppies and fortunately they do not require any special kind of care. Both smooth haired as well as wirehaired versions can do with brushing of their hair (weekly) which will help remove their dead and loose hair. In addition, it is also necessary to trim your wirehaired mini dachshund puppies about once every six months.

     

    The long haired mini dachshund puppies require to be brushed on a daily basis which will ensure that his hair does not mat up or get tangled up. You can bathe these puppies only when necessary and it is also necessary to take good care of their health to ensure that they do not develop health conditions such as hip dysplasia, obesity and problems with their spines.

     

    Training mini dachshund puppies can be difficult on account of their stubborn nature and willfulness. And, they can prove to be difficult to housebreak as well. They are however equally at home in the countryside as they are in the city – provided they get sufficient exercise which will keep them from getting bored or become obese. What’s more, after having purchased your mini dachshund puppies you also need take them for walks on a leash and give them some of your time when they can play and not be bored.
